Helping Others Winners

Announcement

The Blue Springs Ford Helping Others campaign will be donating the September portion of the charity fund to the ALS Association-Keith Worthington Chapter. Due to this, there will be no nominating or voting during the month of September. Nominations will resume on October 1.

Every month, Blue Springs Ford will be hosting a Helping Others campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to get the community involved with a charity. We will be giving away $1000 to a charity every month, but we need your help. There are hundreds of charities out there. We need you to tell us which one to give the money to. Here is how it works:

  1. Nominate! 1st-10th of every month
You get to choose who gets to be voted on. There will be a form provided that will allow you to nominate any charity you like. If the nomination is approved, it will be added to the list of charities to be voted upon to receive the $1000.
  2. Vote! 11th-26th of every month
All approved nominated charities will be listed here during this time. You will then be able to "like" (or vote for) the charity[ies] you think should win. You can like as many charities as you want, but you can only like each charity once, so get your friends involved too!
  3. Winner! 27th-end of every month
This is when we finally tally the "likes" and announce who wins the $1000. Come visit this page during this time to see if the charity you voted for won!

We will be giving away $1000/month until we give away a total of $250,000! That's over a 20 year commitment. Stay involved and help make a difference in the community!

* Effective August 2014, organizations will be eligible to win the Helping Others donation one time. Organization must have current Non-Profit status at time of winning. Non Profit status will be verified via the IRS website.

Music Theatre for Young People (MTYP) is the midwest’s premiere professional training program for students in grades 2 through 12. MTYP provides young people who have enthusiasm, passion, and dedication to musical theater an opportunity to grow through unique one-week performance experiences. Each show in our season is auditioned, cast, rehearsed and performed in 7 days. Students who participate in Music Theatre for Young People learn from professionally trained vocal, dance and acting coaches to create a truly professional Broadway experience. MTYP faculty and master class instructors are individuals who studied music and theatre in college, are currently working in musical theatre on Broadway and venues across the country and many of them are MTYP alums. Since Music Theatre for Young People started in 1984, many of its students have performed on Broadway, in Hollywood and around the world. The combined emphasis on quality of work and positive peer attitude generates an atmosphere where life-long relationships develop. Within a one-week time frame, students audition, are cast in roles, then immediately begin learning dialogue, music, choreography, and blocking. When the curtain rises a week later, the show rivals some of Kansas City’s best professional productions.

Mobility for Mickey

Visit Website

Mobility for Mickey is a fundraiser set up by friends and family of Kelly and Erika Hinrichs. Their son Michael, or Mickey as we all know him, has recently been diagnosed with a very rare genetic disorder. So rare in fact that it does not have a name. It is simply referred to as a “mutation on the SHANK3 gene and OPHN1 gene.” Mutations on these genes cause a variety of issues such as epilepsy, autism, muscle weakness, social and language barriers, neurological problems and heart conditions. Mickey has suffered from several of these conditions. Since birth, he has been diagnosed with laryngomalacia, atrial septal defect, and MRI results have shown that he has several large spaces around his brain that may lead to neurological problems. By four months old, he had several episodes of aspiration pneumonia which resulted in surgery for a feeding tube. Now he suffers mostly from muscle weakness, as he is not able to sit unassisted and has just started to crawl at two years of age. Mickey is one of the happiest kids alive, despite the odds against him. He always has a smile and shows so much hope for improvement with continued therapy and the right medical equipment. Mickey is need of a Pediatric Kid Kart, Gait Trainer, and other future medical equipment and supplies. With the Pediatric Kid Kart and other medical equipment the family has also come to the conclusion they are in need of a handicap accessible vehicle. With your support we can raise funds for much needed medical equipment and supplies that would allow them to be a family like any other. A Kid Kart will help with several daily functions such as sitting at the table for a family meal or just sitting together on the floor for family time. These items would also help with normal outings. They could actually go shopping as a family, to the doctors, to the zoo, or just a walk around the park. Please help support Mobility for Mickey and get this family mobile.

Variety of Greater Kansas City

Visit Website

Variety is truly the most giving and incredible organization I have seen in Kansas City! Monthly, this organization holds a gift presentation ceremony in which a gift from Variety is donated to a child in our community with mental and physical disabilities. The objective of the organization is child mobility. The group believes that all children deserve to live life to the fullest by being able to move and join their peers in activities such as playing with other kids on the playground. To fulfill this objective, Variety has awarded adaptive bikes, van lifts, wheelchairs, hand-pedal bikes and prosthetic equipment to kids in Kansas City for the past 78 years. The Variety gift presentations are a constant reminder to donors and volunteers that true happiness is given to both children and their families by providing a life essential - mobility. Mobility is a gift that is taken for granted and Variety works daily at giving that gift back to local children. Variety of Greater Kansas City would be the perfect organization for the Blue Springs Ford Helping Others Project.
